Panellist Biographies

Ian Tracey
Co-Founder of Anchored In Ltd.

Anchored In was set up to do one simple thing. To enable companies to grow by helping them to understand what needs to be done and where the resources are to do it. Their customers include both companies and the support infrastructure to help them.

Ian helps companies to understand the mix of funding and connections that they need and helps them tell their story with clarity to prospective customers, grant providers and investors. Prior to Anchored In, Ian was Head of Access to Funding & Finance at the Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) and was responsible for growing and developing the KTN’s strategies for assisting innovative companies through the application and raising of finance be-it lending, grants, or equity-based. During his time at the KTN, he also provided governance to the Venturefest Network and was the senior line manager responsible for the Diversity and Inclusion programme that was delivered to Innovate UK and its support networks (EEN, Catapults).

David Golding
Head of North America and Global Networks at Innovate UK

David’s role involves leading Innovate UK’s activities with North America and working with different global networks in support of innovative high growth UK businesses seeking global opportunities through innovation collaboration and partnerships.

Innovate UK, as the UK’s national innovation agency, provides a range of support for UK businesses to develop and realise the potential of new ideas and to go on to grow and scale globally. The support includes funding for R&D and innovation projects through to programmes for businesses to explore opportunities globally, including North America.

David has been with Innovate UK since it was established in 2007 and has been involved in the creation and development of many of the ways Innovate UK supports business, including its global programmes.

Charlotte Thompson
Access to Funding & Finance at Knowledge Transfer Network

Charlotte Thompson is part of the Access to Funding and Finance team, working on early-stage investment for the Northern Powerhouse and Midlands Engine. Previously Charlotte was part of the commercial team at Arvia Technology, taking it from lab scale to demonstration plant. She has previously worked in business incubation where she supported start-ups and SMEs in maximising their growth.

Charlotte has a BSc in Economics and a MA in Enterprise evaluating the commercial potential of intellectual property at the University of Manchester.

Alistair Hutson

Alistair has worked at WorldFirst for 6 years and has a team of account managers who look after the currency requirements of their clients. An expert in the global financial markets, Alistair has been working with internationally ambitious individuals and companies, helping them to mitigate the often complex world of payments and receipts.

WorldFirst are on a mission to make it faster, easier, safer and cheaper to do business around the world and their international currency account platform, offering fixed and low margins for SMEs is leading the way in doing this.

Leib Bolel
Venture Partner at Grayhawk Capital

Grayhawk provides Venture Capital for outstanding early and growth-stage companies in key tech sectors including – Mobile, SaaS, Enterprise Software, Security, Business Intelligence, Financial Services and Healthcare.

Leib has over a decade of experience in the area of new business development, startups, marketing, funding acquisition and general operations management, and has been instrumental in building organizations from the ground up. He offers the highest level of analytical skills, starting with an evaluation of the company vision and strategy, determining the budget and expenditures, sourcing and hiring the most qualified candidates and ensuring investments are forthcoming and available for continuing growth and profit.

Stephane Frijia
Senior Vice President of Strategy at Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC)

Stephane is responsible for developing and overseeing GPEC’s international strategy, in coordination with the International Leadership Council. He is also a contributor to the US Investment Advisory Council (IAC), advising the U.S. Secretary of Commerce on the development and implementation of strategies and programs to attract and retain foreign direct investment (FDI) in the United States.

Additionally, he is also one of the architects for the development of the Connective, Greater Phoenix Smart Region Consortium, a collaborative research and implementation partnership between the public sector, academia, industry and civic institutions to drive the creation, advancement and adoption of smart city technology to improve the quality of life for all citizens and businesses within our communities.

Jan Mul
Director, International Business Investment at Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA)

Jan and his team at FCEDA enable businesses to directly access and grow into the US East Coast markets. Markets include technology, financial services, government, defence, cybersecurity, aerospace, data analytics, healthcare and professional services. Adjacent to Washington D.C., Fairfax County has access to national government bodies and provides good transport links to various other regional East Coast business centres such as New York, Boston and Raleigh.

The FCEDA Capital Attraction programme encourages innovative companies setting and expanding in Fairfax County to receive millions of dollars in venture capital and private-equity financing every year. Law firms, accounting firms, and banks that specialize in serving the venture community also have a growing significant presence in the county.

Roddy Cameron
GTM Global

Roderick solves strategy, growth and funding problems for scaling businesses. Having previously attended GTM Global’s programmes to access international supply chain expertise whilst at a RegTech, Roderick joined the business in 2020 to develop the range of growth services available to support GTM Global’s client community.

James Kaufmann

James is a partner in the capital markets team at Howard Kennedy. He is an authority on technology in the financial sector with distinct expertise with cryptocurrencies and blockchain and their regulation. His unique background, in-house experience and regulatory knowledge mean he is ideally suited to advising clients on issues raised in this innovative and fast-moving field.

Richard Blakesley
Founder and CEO at Capital Pilot

Capital Pilot is the Investability Rating Agency for startups and scaleups. They assess and rate early-stage growth companies based on investability affordably and at scale. Their 24-page assessment report gives founders quality neutral feedback on their prospects of fundraising success, and the rating acts as a signal of quality between investors and investees, levelling the playing field in a market which was difficult enough even before Covid-19 hit.

Capital Pilot is now preparing for the launch of Autopilot.VC, an ultra-low-cost fund offering High Net Worth and Sophisticated Investors highly diversified passive exposure to early-stage tech investing. The fund will deploy capital to startups and scale-ups based only upon their investability rating.

Mark Stimpfig
Co-Founder at GTM Global

Mark Stimpfig co-founded GTM Global in 2017, having previously run national and international marketing programmes for clients like Sony, Dixons / PC World, Safeway and Reuters. Mark is also the London Development Director for Greater Phoenix Economic Council promoting accessing the US West Coast markets through The Connected Place.
